IESNA's TM-15-11 BUG rating system is based on backlight, glare and glare which refers to lighting pollution of lighting system. According to IES TM-15-11, it defines the maximum luminous flux allowed by luminaires at various angles. The BUG rating stands for backlight, uplight and glare. Backlight (B) is light directed behind the lighting fixture, uplight (U) is any light directed above the level of the lighting fixture, and glare (G) is the amount of light emitted by the lighting fixture at high angles.

What's the example of BUG ratings?

For example, a luminaire with 200 lumens in the BH zone would have a rating of B1 for that zone. If the luminaire outputs 800 lumens in the BM zone and 950 lumens in the BL zone, the overall backlight rating would be B2. The U and G values can also be determined using this method.
