About luminaire arrangement

The definitions of the five core parameters for road lighting layout are as follows: The setback is the horizontal distance from the light pole to the edge of the roadway, typically ranging from 0.3 to 0.6 meters, balancing installation safety and lighting effectiveness. The arm length is the horizontal extension of the light pole toward the road; single arms are typically 1.5–2.5 meters long, while double arms are used for two-way lane lighting. The overhang refers to the horizontal distance from the center of the luminaire to the road edge, limited to one-quarter of the installation height to avoid obstruction and glare. The arm inclination angle is the angle between the light fixture’s emitting surface and the horizontal plane; it must be kept within 15°, with 0° currently being the most common setting to minimize glare and upward light spill. Pole spacing is the distance between adjacent poles along the road centerline; the standard is 3–4.5 times the installation height, balancing lighting uniformity with construction costs. About street lighting design – standards and steps

Road lighting design must adhere to European EN 13201 or RP-8-21 standards, utilizing metrics such as luminance, illuminance, pavement uniformity, and glare limits as acceptance criteria. The entire design process is executed with the aid of simulation software such as DIALux EVO, Relux, and AGi32. The initial step involves surveying road conditions—inputting parameters such as lane width, pavement material, and traffic volume—to determine the appropriate road lighting class. The second step entails selecting suitable LED street light products and importing their photometric distribution files to specify the required power output and optical lens models. Subsequently, a mounting configuration—such as single-sided or staggered arrangements—is selected, and parameters including pole height, overhang length, and installation spacing are defined; software simulations are then performed to verify the illuminance parameters. If the data fails to meet regulatory specifications, the lighting layout scheme is iteratively optimized until compliance is achieved, culminating in the generation of a final simulation report that ensures the realization of a safe, energy-efficient, and fully compliant street lighting design. People also ask

To calculate street lighting requirements, you need to define key road parameters such as road width, number of lanes, pole height, pole spacing, installation arrangement, and luminaire specifications. A street lighting calculator uses these inputs to estimate important lighting metrics, including luminance, illuminance, uniformity, and Ti. The results help determine whether the selected lighting solution can meet the requirements of the road application and relevant lighting standards.

Yes. The calculator can estimate key lighting parameters and compare them with commonly used road lighting requirements. However, the results are intended for preliminary evaluation only. Final compliance should be verified through a detailed lighting design conducted by qualified lighting engineers according to local regulations and applicable standards.

The simulation results are based on the input parameters and luminaire photometric data. They provide a reliable reference for product selection and project planning. However, actual lighting performance may vary due to site conditions, installation tolerances, environmental factors, and project-specific requirements. Therefore, a professional lighting design is recommended before project implementation.
