Series Leaf High Efficacy Solar Powered Street Lamp

Leaf series solar powered street lamp use high conversion efficiency monocrystalline solar panels, paired with deep-cycle batteries and integrated lithium battery / controller unit to ensure stable operation of the entire system. Leaf series street lights use excellent Lumileds chips with a luminous efficiency of up to 180lm/w. This is the lamp with the highest light efficiency among all ZGSM lamps currently, and can be perfectly combined with the use of solar energy.

In order to meet the needs of nighttime traffic flow changes on the road, ZGSM recommends dimming profile and also allows customers to customize the dimming curve. In addition, customers can also choose ZGSM’s light poles to install these solar street lights. These light poles include all accessories, such as cantilever arms, battery boxes, and solar panel brackets. We also support customized light pole heights and cantilever arm lengths to meet the project need. A typical solar powered street lamp consumes about 20 to 150 watts of electricity. If you need to determine how many wattages are suitable for your solar street lights, we recommend confirming with a lighting simulation. For example, for a 7-meter-wide, 8-meter-high light pole and a road with a 35-meter spacing between light poles, 50W lighting power is usually sufficient. If the road is wider and the light poles are taller or more widely spaced, a correspondingly higher wattage of light fixtures will be required. At the same time, the wattage of solar powered street lamp should also be adjusted accordingly according to the capacity of solar panels and batteries.

1. Determine the wattage of your street light

Wattage determines whether the road can be reasonably lit, we recommend running a lighting simulation to confirm

2. Calculate total watt-hours per day for street light

Total watt-hours per day = Power consumption 1 (W) × Number of working hours in the first time period + Power consumption 2 (W) × Number of working hours in the second time period + Power consumption 3 (W) × Number of working hours in the third time period + … + Power consumption x (Watts) × Number of working hours in the xth time period.

3. Calculate battery capacity

Formula: Required battery capacity (Wh) = Total Watt-hours (per day) x Days of autonomy / 0.9 / Depth of discharge of deep cycle battery

4. Panel power = total daily watt-hours * 1.333 / sunshine coefficient

Monocrystalline solar panels are recommended for solar street lighting projects. In strong light environments, monocrystalline panels are more efficient than polycrystalline panels because the crystal structure of monocrystalline silicon allows it to better absorb and convert light energy. Polycrystalline panels are more efficient at converting solar energy in low-light environments. Considering that the place where solar street lights are installed is usually sunny, it is recommended to use monocrystalline solar panels, although its price is relatively high.

Lead-acid Battery

Lead-acid batteries include electrolyte-type lead-acid batteries (VRLA) and colloidal lead-acid batteries (Gel). They are mainly used in split-type solar street lamp systems and are usually buried underground. They're bigger and cheaper, but they use fewer cycles than lithium-ion batteries.Most lead-acid batteries are 12V or 24V systems.

Lithium Battery

Majority of lithium batteries used in solar street lighting systems are ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries ( LiFePo4). Lithium batteries are more costly and have a longer lifespan than lead-acid batteries.
Ternary lithium batteries provide superior cold resistance compared to lithium iron phosphate batteries. The high-temperature resistance of lithium iron phosphate batteries is better than that of ternary lithium batteries. Consequently, solar street lighting systems in high-temperature regions often use lithium iron phosphate batteries.
Available Li battery voltages for the solar street light system include 3.7V, 3.2V, 6.4V, 11.1V, and 12.8V.

Monocrystalline Solar Panel

The photoelectric conversion efficiency of monocrystalline silicon solar panels is between 18 and 24 percent, with an average of 18 percent. This kind of solar cell has the greatest photoelectric conversion efficiency of all sorts and a lifespan of up to 25 years. However, manufacturing costs are more than for other types.

The manufacturing method of polycrystalline silicon solar panels is same as monocrystalline silicon solar panels, however the photoelectric conversion efficiency of polycrystalline silicon solar panels is lower than monocrystalline silicon solar panels, it is around 16%. But it is cheaper than the monocrystalline silicon solar panels.

Compared with ordinary solar controllers, it has improved a lot and can solve the problem of battery dissatisfaction. MPPT solar controller is a technology of the third generation. It relates to the feature "Maximum PowerPoint Tracking."It is an upgraded product of the PWM solar controller. The MPPT solar controller can detect and maintain track of the voltage and current of the solar panel in real time. Maximum power (P=U*I), ensuring that the battery is always charged with maximum power. The MPPT tracking efficiency is 99%, the system's overall power production efficiency is 97%, and the battery will have a good management.

Let's take the PV series solar powered street lamp as an example.

Installation steps for split type solar street light

I. Solar Panel Installation
1. Fix the solar panel onto the solar panel bracket using four M6x35 bolts.
2. Attach the spigot to the solar panel bracket with four M8x 40 bolts (Note: The outlet direction of the solar panel junction box is downwards).
3. Secure the integrated lithium control battery on the solar panel bracket with four M6x35 bolts.
4. Connect the bare wire end of the 1000mm waterproof plug wire to the solar panel (photovoltaic module) junction box. Note that the red /brown wire should be connected to the positive terminal and the black /blue wire to the negative terminal (skip this step if the solar panel comes with pre-attached wires).

II. Street Light Installation
1. Thread the bare wire end of the 2500mm waterproof plug wire from the boƩom hole to the top end of the mounting arm.
2. Route the threaded wire through a PG connector into the street lamp head, and connect it to the terminal block, noting that the red/brown wire is the positive and the black/blue wire is the negative. After completing the wiring, tighten the PG waterproof gland and secure the street lamp head on the mounting arm, ensuring that the street light is parallel to the ground for optimal illumination.

III. Final Assembly
1. Mount the assembled solar panel with the spigot onto the light pole. Note: The solar panel should face towards the sun and not be installed near trees or other obstructions.
2. Fix the assembled street light arm at the corresponding position on the lamp pole.
3. First, connect the waterproof connector wire from the street light to the female connector of the integrated lithium control battery. Turn on the switch of the integrated lithium control battery, wait for approximately 20 seconds until the street light lights up, then connect the solar panel wire (female connector) to the male connector of the integrated lithium control battery (if using multiple solar panels, any male connector can be used for this connection). After completing the connections, the street light should turn off after about 20 seconds, indicating successful wiring.

IV. Additional Notes
The above wiring process is for customers who have their own light poles. If the entire set is provided by ZGSM, we recommend routing the cables through the lamp pole for a neater installation.
