What are the 5 zones of tunnel lighting?
There are 5 key areas defined in CIE 88-2004 that need to be considered when designing tunnel lighting: entry zone, threshold zone, transition zone, interior zone and exit zone.
Why are tunnel lights necessary?
Tunnel lighting is necessary to solve the problem of sudden adaptation of the environment inside the tunnel. A balance of internal and external brightness is needed to adapt to the people entering and leaving the tunnel. The design is based on a certain critical length of the tunnel.
What is done with lighting in a tunnel during the day to allow driver’s eyesight to adapt?
When drivers make vision adjustments as they move through the tunnel, they can slowly reduce the brightness level to ensure that vision adaptation is not affected. Good tunnel lighting allows users to enter and exit the tunnel safely and comfortably.
