LED lamps used on sports fields are often called floodlights or stadium lights ( Explore the best led lights for soccer fields ) . The former is generally used to illuminate small outdoor courts, such as tennis courts and basketball courts, while the latter and high-power floodlights are used to illuminate larger courts, such as football fields and baseball fields. They are all used to light up playing fields and stadiums during evening and night games to keep sports and games running smoothly.

When it comes to simple training and recreational football games, the illumination of the football field does not need to be particularly high. According to relevant standards, 75-200lux is enough. When the stadium is used for light-level matches, the maximum brightness you need is 200-300lux. When the stadium is used for major events or international events, the illumination of the stadium is generally 500lux, and some can even reach 1000lux. So it’s hard to say how many lumens your court will need. Take the lux to lumen conversion of football field lighting as an example. A standard football field is 105 meters long and 68 meters wide. If your stadium requires an illumination of 200lux, then multiply 200lux by 105×68 square meters, which will require at least 1,428,000 lumens to illuminate. For a football field, taking into account the waste of lights and the maintenance factor of 0.8, the total lumen requirement is 2,380,000lm. If converted into how many 1000W sports field lights, the answer is 16. If you need higher illumination and uniformity, the number will increase to 48 or more.

Stadium lighting requires a larger floodlight wattage than other outdoor floodlights because stadiums require higher lux levels, which require more lumens to illuminate a football pitch. For example, according to the EN12193 standard, the Class I standard (taking an outdoor tennis court as an example) requires 500lux, the Class II standard requires 300lux, and the Class III standard requires 200lux. This is almost the same as indoor lighting levels. You can imagine that every place on a vast stadium is so bright that high-power floodlights are needed to illuminate the stadium. Therefore, at night, the stadium will appear very bright.
