This is dictated by the tunnel’s unique structure as well as the physiological structure of the human eye. Because the tunnel is semi-enclosed, there is a significant contrast in light between the interior and outside of the tunnel. When a vehicle enters or departs the tunnel, the human eye must adjust to the passage of time. As a result, “adaptation lag” arises.
